CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS
Sućuraj
is village with rich and turbulent history. It is on strategic
position, so it changed the government very often.
In the village there are two churches, of typical Dalmatian architecture, the older one St.Anton is from XVIII century. There are evidences of the existence of two older churches; remains of one can be seen in the front yard of new church. There is also a monastery, which was renovated in XVIII century, what is documented by the epigraph on the entrance to a rectory. The old centre of the village is consisted of rural old stone houses (first Croatian population came in VII and VIII century); there are few nice examples of baroque.
Our wish is to give You the opportunity to get better acquainted with the place where You have decided to spend Your most precious time, your vacation. Therefore we have prepared the following:

HVAR
City
of extraordinary beauty. One of the symbols is the oldest
public theatre in Europe. It was built as a pledge of peace
between peasants and the nobles, after the rebellion. The
nobles have built theatre where was firstly in Europe allowed
entrance to a common people. Monumental gothic palaces like
Hektorovićeva and Lucićeva. Biggest Main Square in Dalmatian
cities in front of cathedral, city walls, fortress etc.
STARI
GRAD
The
most important monument is Hektorović fortress with ethnographic
collection, beautiful fishpond with seawater, small botanical
garden. City is recognisable by lovely narrow streets, stone
houses and beautiful churches.
NARONA
It
was important city of the Roman Empire. The remains of the
Roman temple are very well preserved, with many statues
of the Roman rulers. It is on the road to Dubrovnik, cca.30-45
min. driving from Drvenik (port on the coast where the ferry
starts from).
KORČULA
City
surrounded by mediaeval walls and towers, many luxurious
palaces, mostly baroque in the city centre, cathedral. From
Drvenik there is a ferry line directly for Korčula, so that
excursion can be arranged in one day.
DUBROVNIK
City – republic. Most attractive town on Adriatic, but also one of the prettiest in Europe. It is completely surrounded by monumental walls. Old centre is rich with historical monuments such as: Onofrijeva česma, Orlandov stup, Very old pharmacy in the monastery, baroque church of St. Vlaho, Stradun, Dukes palace. Driving to Dubrovnik lasts cca. 1.5 hours.
SPLIT

City,
which is 1700 years old. Dioklecians palace is the symbol
of the town. Many museums with archaeological monuments
are showing history of these parts. Palaces, squares, churches
from the earliest stage of Christianity, picturesque open
market, mediaeval towers for defence from Turks are also
interesting to see. Nearby is the fortress of Klis –
impressive defence tower on the mountain. Turks came to
this fortress, but never entered Split.
SALONA
Old
Roman city nearby Split. The remains are: aqueduct, remains
of the amphitheatre, and Roman necropolis with many sarcophaguses.
TROGIR

city
on the island, connected with small bridge, app. 20 minutes
driving distance from Split. There is to see old City loggia,
cathedral with famous portal, Kairos – the good of
lucky moment – an antique artefact, different styles
palaces.
